If you’re not confident on a board, you can always pack a picnic and sit on the shoreline to watch adventurous Calgarians ride the waves.

Have you ever wondered what a kangaroo feels like? Cobbs Adventure Park gives Calgarians a chance to pet kangaroos and meet other exotic animals as well. You don’t have to travel to Australia to meet these cute little animals, Cobb’s Adventure Park has many different ones you can hang out with all day long!

If you are looking for a delicious brunch on a poolside patio, Hotel Arts is the place to see and be seen. Known for their amazing food, beautiful outdoor pool deck and patio cocktails, it’s perfect for weekend brunches or a staycation. Summer is the perfect time to try new recipes – especially when they are made on the barbecue. It is also a good time to try new beers from local YYC breweries with these recipes!

At East Hills Bottle Depot we are all about trying new food and sharing it with our family and friends to create that East Hills Hype! Whether you are having a family reunion, a backyard bonanza or just having a Sunday night family dinner, these recipes and drinks will have you craving them long after summer is over.

If you are looking for something light and easy for that Sunday night dinner vibe, we suggest this easy make shrimp cobb salad. This unique spin on a classic recipe is sure to take your tastebuds to the next level! Pale ale is a nice light beer that pairs well with shrimp and salad, so we suggest checking out the Star Cheek IPA from Tool Shed Brewing with this meal!

We also suggest this fresh take on a corn on the cob recipe that will leave your party guests wanting more. This easy to make grilled corn with chipotle lime butter is simple to make and requires little preparation. The grilled corn is packed with a tender, crunch filled bite, perfectly paired with the chipotle lime butter, giving it a zesty kick that pairs well with burgers, salad, or fish! The Beltline Blonde from Last Best Brewing is the perfect beer pairing for this zesty recipe. We also recommend the Tropical IPA from Eighty Eight Brewing which will have your taste buds running wild with flavours of mango, pineapple and cotton candy.

We know a summer BBQ wouldn’t be complete without an awesome burger recipe like these grilled chicken ranch burgers. The past few months have made it a challenge to connect with our family and friends. With lockdown, we turned to technology to allow us to connect. It has been even harder for those who are in relationships or single and dating because date nights have been impossible to keep spontaneous.

You’ve probably binge-watched everything on Netflix and if you’re like us, you’re probably excited to go on dates in the real world now that the re-opening of Alberta has begun! is the wine. There are many different wines, but when you know a little bit about each type of wine then you can better prepare the food to go with it. Many people make the easily avoided mistake of putting too many appetizers out with the wrong colour of the wine.

White Wines

Recycling 101: What Happens After You Return Your Bottles To East Hills

Recycling your empty bottles has many positive impacts on preserving our environment. By returning your empty beverage containers to East Hills Bottle Depot, you can earn money and be an environmental hero. Have you ever wondered what happens to your bottles after you leave them at our Depot?

Read on to find out about the recycling lifecycle!

Sorting and Pickup

You may notice that we sort all of the different bottles, containers, glass, and cans into different bins. This is so they are easily transported by a truck to a material recovery factory where they are all further sorted by colour, type, and material.

Aluminum Cans and Containers

When aluminum cans aren’t recycled, they are extremely destructive to the environment and leave pieces of aluminum that pollute our air, water, and environment. Whether it’s a locally handcrafted beer or a refreshing pop, we all go through lots of cans on a daily basis, which is why we need to do our part to look after the environment.

At East Hills Bottle Depot, your aluminum cans are transported to the recovery factory where they are baled and shredded into tiny pieces where their paint and coatings are removed. These tiny pieces are melted and cast down into ingots – blocks of steel – which are flattened down into coils. These new coils can be remade into new cans, airplane parts and used to make parts on bicycles!

Glass Bottles

It can take a lot of resources to make glass from scratch which is another great reason why we should be recycling our old glass containers and bottles! When they are picked up and returned to the recovery factory, the glass is crushed into tiny pieces to make new glass bottles and containers. Did you know that this glass can also be used for countertops, sand roads, help with construction projects and home renovations?

Plastic Bottles

Plastic bottles are one of the most common items littering our planet. Since they are made with petroleum, which is a non-renewable resource, they end up hurting the environment the most. There are also two different types of plastic bottle containers.

The first type of plastic bottle is PET, which includes pop and water bottles. The second type of plastic bottle is HDPE, which includes juice containers.

These bottles are washed, chopped up and sorted using a flotation process which allows the pieces to be melted down to be used over again. The pieces that have become melted down are transformed into fibres which can be turned into jackets, chairs, new bottles, and carpet.

There are so many opportunities that recyclables have to be reused into new things and it all starts by returning your empties to East Hills Bottle Depot!
