The river conditions at the 10th Street Bridge location allow for world-class, safe and adjustable surfing, and has been approved by the City of Calgary. Nicknamed the 10th street wave, this has been highlighted by Tourism Calgary as one of Alberta’s hottest spots for surfing. Don’t believe us? Watch for yourself! If you’re not confident on a board, you can always pack a picnic and sit on the shoreline to watch adventurous Calgarians ride the waves.

Have you ever wondered what a kangaroo feels like? Cobbs Adventure Park gives Calgarians a chance to pet kangaroos and meet other exotic animals as well. You don’t have to travel to Australia to meet these cute little animals, Cobb’s Adventure Park has many different ones you can hang out with all day long!

If you are looking for a delicious brunch on a poolside patio, Hotel Arts is the place to see and be seen. Known for their amazing food, beautiful outdoor pool deck and patio cocktails, it’s perfect for weekend brunches or a staycation. The past few months have made it a challenge to connect with our family and friends. With lockdown, we turned to technology to allow us to connect. It has been even harder for those who are in relationships or single and dating because date nights have been impossible to keep spontaneous.

You’ve probably binge-watched everything on Netflix and if you’re like us, you’re probably excited to go on dates in the real world now that the re-opening of Alberta has begun! Whether you like fancy cocktails, playing games, exploring museums or checking out comedy clubs, we have compiled a list of the best date night spots in YYC to ignite the spark in your dating life!

Cocktail Bars and Food

Calgary has some of the trendiest and most unique bars in the province that serve up creative cocktails sure to impress your date.

Spend the night rekindling your romance and getting to know your new lover by stargazing at the Rothney Astrophysical Observatory. Located a brief 30-kilometre drive southwest of Calgary’s city centre, this is the perfect destination to truly show off your romantic side. They are currently closed to the public now, but keep an eye out for their re-opening date!

When it comes to wine and appetizers there are many options out there and it can feel overwhelming to know which to serve to ensure all of your guests will be pleased. Knowing the perfect combination will have you feeling like a star and have your party guests raving about your party for years to come!

We found all the people-pleasing pairings of wines and appetizers that are bound to make everyone’s tastebuds go wild!

The First Step…

is the wine. There are many different wines, but when you know a little bit about each type of wine then you can better prepare the food to go with it. Many people make the easily avoided mistake of putting too many appetizers out with the wrong colour of the wine.

White Wines

Pinot Grigio is a light and refreshing wine that can bring out the sweetness in food and is best paired with appetizers like artichoke and spinach dip, mozzarella and brie cheeses, or smoked meats. We suggest trying Pinot Grigio with this baked bean and artichoke dip.

Chardonnay is known for it’s creamy and light aftertaste which is why this type of wine is best paired with chicken quesadillas or grilled marinated shrimp.

Riesling is the perfect kind of wine to match anyone’s tastes buds. We like to pair this sweet choice with chips and homemade guacamole, dumplings, or shrimp tacos to give a perfect balance of sweet and salty.

Moscato is for all the sweet tooth’s in your house. These wines are deliciously sweet and pair well with poached pears in honey, ginger and cinnamon syrup.

Red Wines

Shiraz is a wine that ranges from spicy to fruity or bold. This wine is ideal to pair with appetizers like a charcuterie plate because it will play nicely with the salt and subtle flavours in the cheese and meats.

Pinot Noir is a rich bouquet of flavours and we suggest pairing it with a simple snack plate with crackers, goat cheeses, pears and salami.

Merlot is a lush wine with a jam-like taste and goes well with mussels or sweet and sour chicken balls.

Our culture places immense value on the importance of connections, which is why East Hills is not just a Bottle Depot, it’s a whole mood.

The Environment

Our lobby area features comfy couches where you can sit and hang with the crew, make new friends, or chill with some Netflix on the TV while we count up your bottles. Stay and drink some coffee at our coffee bar while enjoying the beautiful paintings on the wall or even try your hand at our air hockey table. The environment should enhance all five senses, which is why our industrial ozone machines work to eliminate odours. That means you can enjoy the smell of freshly brewed coffee, not stinky old beer.

Whether you are spending a Sunday afternoon cleaning out your garage of empty beverage containers or running your errands on a weekday morning, East Hills Bottle Depot is in the most convenient location. We are located right across from East Hills Costco, so not only can you make some extra money from returning your bottles, but you can also pick-up your groceries for the week. Whether you decide to stand at the counter while your bottles are counted or kick back on one of our couches, you can trust that your bottles are counted correctly. We have front-facing monitors so you can easily watch your count in real-time. We also know that mistakes can happen, which is why we would love to have that conversation with you in the rare event that something does go wrong.

Cleanliness

Sticky floors aren’t an enjoyable experience for anyone, which is why we clean our floors 10 – 12 times each and every day. We also dedicate our time to prioritizing the cleanliness of our depot so our guests can feel comfortable every time they walk through our front doors.
